So my fictious mountain bike site is fine. My understanding with the 3D stuff is it is not supported in Windows Forms and so I don't think you will get far with licensing. But either way your best bet is to contact Microsoft licensing.
They have been very helpful to me. SoulSolutions wrote: Hey John, thanks for the flashback to this thread for me! My pleasure ;. Not supported in this case means, not officially supported, I guess.
Well, about contacting Microsoft Licensing, do you have something special to talk to there or is it just some kind of general contact? Can you point me to the right address for that or maybe send me the contact info to John. Doe at The-Johns.
I have a commercial Windows client application for a small number of users. It is a client application that embeds IE and allows users to lookup their address using the VE.
I would like the users to have the ability to save a screen shot of their house if they choose. Is this permissible in the terms of use? If not, can I get permission via some kind of agreement with MS? This would be a very low volume. JV, Right now I don't think there is any method of tracking transactions but according to Microsoft there should be a tracking system built into the new VE6 that's coming out in Fall this year.
I believe that tile renders, Find, and route calls all count towards the transaction. The content you requested has been removed. Ask a question. Quick access. Search related threads.

General Terms of Use: You should review the terms and ensure you comply with them, as I cannot sum it all up here, but the gist is: You may use the documented APIs to access the service to a maximum number of transactions in a 24 hour period.
Currently that limit is , but we may change it in the future. We do not currently enforce limits in an automated way, but may in the future if we find we have a problem with abuse or otherwise see a need.
Right now we monitor for abuse and address what we find on a case by case basis. We do it this way so we don't create a bad experience for your users, so we can ensure with some human intervention that what we see as abuse actually is, and generally because we do not see a need for an automated limit today.
It is your responsibility to do what is reasonable to ensure your application complies with any limits, which are on a per application, not a per end user, basis. We do not show any advertising today, and will announce any intentions to do so on our normal channels.
Your site must be publicly accessible: no intranet, no subscription apps, etc. We do not make a distinction between commercial and non-commercial sites, so you may use it on a commercial site so long as you comply with all the other terms.
Your specific agreement will dictate the terms under which you can use the control, but generally the exceptions beyond any feature differentiation from the general Terms of Use include: You are not limited to the general Terms of Use rate limit, and may use any portion of your transactions in any time window. No restrictions on site types: you may deploy intranet sites, rich client apps, subscription internet services, etc. Generally, advertising is not part of the requirements under an agreement.
Wednesday, September 6, PM. Virtual Earth Is Free. I would like to see it :D. Careful on that one -- VE is free for non-commercial use i. If you're doing commercial development, and I suspect a real estate portal is, you will need to license the commercial version of the control. I'm sure the MS types here can explain what technical benefits you get from using the commerical flavor, but what'll happen is your license key will track the API usage and you'll get charged on a transaction basis for calls to the MS server s.
Monday, September 4, PM. The 8 tile business is totally absurd and misinformed. You must contact MS licensing for commerical use but my understanding is there is no current method to track actual usage. There is no way that MS will charge per 8 tiles.
If they did we would all use switch other technology or else go broke very quickly. The whole GIS field is going through some very big changes and the days when you could charge through the roof per transaction is over. I also have a question: I am making a software program that retrieves info from Virtual Earth. Tuesday, September 5, AM. I stand corrected Jared. My comment comes after talking with Jay from the VE team who was alarmed by such rumors. Clearly it turns out the rumors steam from MS own publication!
I think the key here is that restriction is for estimating usage to determine if your application will require you to contact MS and arrange a commerical license not for how the service will actually be billed.
The funny thing with the whole licensing is my server never makes a transaction with VE. The user's browser does. I actually have no way of tracking usage, on charging for it or limiting its use. So currently if this model was used for billing, which as far as i am aware it is not, it would be flawed.
Its a bit like giving your users a mobile phone to use at will and we have to pay the bill. Tuesday, September 5, PM. Licensing for Internet applications has the following components: - Platform Access 1 - Usage per transaction only I agree with you that the individual transactions HttpRequests are originating from user machines, not your server, but c'mon -- you have every means of tracking usage and limiting it's use.

Each Battlespace is centered on a specific location on the virtual Earth. Scenarios can be modified in real time and replayed in the After-Action Review for lessons learned. VBS4 scenarios can be fully constructive AI controlled , fully virtual human controlled or a mix of both. VBS4 includes whole-Earth data and supports training at any location on the virtual globe.
The underlying technology — VBS Blue — is a high-performance, whole-planet data ingestion, procedural enhancement and rendering engine, which renders realistic scenes at any altitude from space down to ground level with real-world view distances. Whole-Earth capability dramatically reduces terrain development time and the terrain server capability free with VBS4 saves administration overhead by centralizing terrain data.
This is a step-change compared to VBS3! VBS4 includes VBS Plan, a new mission planning capability that creates massive time savings for instructors and administrators by allowing them to draw static plans on the 2D and 3D maps using standard military symbols, and then execute those plans at an entity level in VBS4.
The interface enables users without formal training to quickly and easily edit terrains. Users can add, move and rotate objects on the terrain, raise or lower terrain, edit roads and other linear features, quickly draw new forests and edit surface detail, and immediately leverage these terrain changes in VBS4 scenarios.
